Dangerous occurrences
The most reported categories in 2005 / 2006 were -
- Failure, collapse or overturning of lifting machinery, excavator, pile driving frame or mobile powered access platform
- The accidental release or escape of any substance in a quantity sufficient to cause the death, major injury or any other damage to the health of any person
- Incidents in respect of a pipeline or pipeline works
- The release or escape of a biological agent likely to cause human infection or illness
- The sudden, uncontrolled release of flammable substances
These combine to account for more than 70% of the total.
In 2005 / 2006 there were almost 3,600 major dangerous occurrence workplace incidents.
